I’m here at the hotel in Las Vegas. I’m here to attend my brother’s wedding. I have a few points that I absolutely had to share with you about real estate investing as they apply to gambling and risk taking.

In the last video we talked about stocks and we discussed why stocks are a gamble. It is because of the uncontrollable nature of the stock market and because of all the emotional aspects of it. If you have not seen that video, you need to check it out.

Now I want to contrast that with real estate investing. I want to do this before we get into specific strategies. I know that many of you are saying, “What can I do right now?” “What do I do next?” “Where are all the opportunities?” “I want to make money now.”

Before we get there I need to lay some groundwork so that you can understand the difference between risk and gambling, and the difference between stocks and real estate investing. I want to show how they are related, and also why they are radically different.

I first want to show you why real estate investing is different. First of all, real estate investing is not a gamble because you have control. This is unlike investing in the stocks of a particular corporation. When you invest in stocks, you have no say-so. You have no control over what their annual budget is going to be or what specific business decisions they make.

In real estate investing you decide how much you want to pay for a property, how much you will sell it for, how much you decide to rent it for, the financing terms and so on. You have control over every aspect of your real estate investing business.
