A Lovable Gecko, Two Irritable Cavemen And…
What do a lovable Gecko… Two irritable cavemen…And a brand new set of money-filled eyes have in common? Even more importantly, what the heck do they have to do with growing your real estate investing business and getting more deals?
I’m about to share one of my golden investor nuggets- Heck, it’s not even gold, it’s a diamond nugget when it comes to investor marketing. Before I share this diamond with you, let me explain the little riddle.
Do you know what these 3 things have in common? Or better yet, what famous and incredibly successful marketing campaign they are a part of? GEICO car insurance! Everyone knows that little Gecko (Charlene loves when he does the fish and chips commercial).
Then there are the two cavemen who get angry when the commercial says ‘Geico car insurance, so easy a caveman can do it.” And now the new marketing campaign goes like this. A guy is driving down the road. He pulls over and suddenly notices he is being followed, by a pair of bobble eyes sitting on a wad of cash! Then someone says. ‘That’s the money you could be saving with Geico!”
Fun, effective and powerful marketing.
What the heck does this have to do with real estate investing and getting more motivated sellers & deals? Everything. You see, so many investors, especially newbies make a critical mistake when it comes to marketing. They foolishly buy into the idea that there is a MAGIC BULLET. One marketing piece that no matter WHERE you send it out, WHO reads it or WHAT deals you are marketing, it will always work.
Let’s just take a look at Geico, a hugely successful company that has in a few short years literally unseated some of the biggest insurance providers in our nation. They started with the Geico Gecko. Everybody loves the Gecko. Even my mom and Charlene love the Gecko! Then came the Cavemen. (I personally love these guys) And now the new bobble eyes sitting on a wad of money.
The Gecko was successful – So why create the cavemen campaign? And now that the cavemen and Gecko and wildly popular, why create yet another marketing campaign? Why?
Because Geico gets it. They know that while the Gecko might work like gang-busters in New Jersey, maybe the folks in North Dakota hate Gecko’s! The Cavemen might work wonderfully in Florida, but maybe California thinks the Cavemen ads are offensive. But the folks in California and North Dakota both love the new bobble eyes!
And herein lays the golden nugget. “ALL MARKETING IS TEST MARKETING” Read it again. Write it on your hand. If you are a fan of the movie Memento (one of my favorites) feel fr*ee to tattoo it on your body.
Does the Gecko marketing campaign work? Absolutely. But obviously it does not work EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME. That’s why they have the Cavemen and now the bobble eyes. They understand that even the greatest marketing pieces aren’t going to work EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME. So how do you know what works best for you in your investing area? You do what Geico does or any savvy marketer… you test it!
Drop some hooks in the water. Test small and see the results. It’s the exact reason why we give our members such a huge pre-done marketing toolkit to give away their homeowner videos with the Done-For-You Deals System.

There’s no way around it. Anybody or any guru who tries to teach you differently is missing the boat. They are trying to sell you a white elephant.
Honestly. ALL MARKETING IS TEST MARKETING. And that’s what makes it fun! You can constantly try something new – because even the slightest changes can result in a big swing in results.
Just by changing a single headline a post-card that generated only 5 motivated seller leads can generate 25! And the only way you’ll ever know is by testing.
So let’s learn from the Gecko, the Cavemen and the bobble eyes – there is no magic bullet in marketing. All marketing is test marketing. And the more you test your investor marketing and watch the results, the better you’ll get at enjoying repeatable results and success!
