StArBuCk The DoG

As a lot of you probably know by now, Charlene and I adopted Starbuck, a retired racing greyhound, and she’s an awesome part of our family.
Being totally honest with you, I did not want a dog at all. For started, I am allergic to just about everything (Charlene calls me Allergy-Boy. Thanks, Char.)
We started doing some research and found greyhounds are really allergy friendly. At the time though, we were living in a small 3-bedroom townhouse. So I was like, this is crazy, we can’t have a retired racing greyhound in our little place! I mean they range from 60 up to 90 something lbs.!!
Well when I went to our first Greyhound Meet-And-Greet as they call them, I was blown away. Not only were these some of the most beautiful animals I have ever seen, but they were so calm and so dignified.
If you know anything about greyhounds, they really have a rough life. They get abused and often beaten as race dogs and then basically dumped or killer when their career is over. I couldn’t be happier to have found our little Starbuck and frankly I don’t think we’ll ever have another breed of dog other than a greyhound.
(And for those of you wondering, greyhounds are completely different than the little Italian Greyhounds. Those little devils are crazy. And they drive my allergies nuts!!) Regular greyhounds are completely different and just amazing. Trust me, everybody who meets Starbuck becomes fascinated with greyhounds. If you are thinking about getting a pooch, definitely check out a greyhound event. They usually have them at the local Petsmart or Petco.
We adopted Starbuck from the organization below. You can see pics of the dogs available here.
Or if you’re not from or around Jersey, this site will give you links to your local greyhound rescue.
By the way, if you decide to adopt, definitely let me know.
From me and Starbuck – Cheers!
PS – Even if you decide a greyhound is not for you, don’t worry I won’t be offended.
The one thing I would tell you is definitely ADOPT. I grew up my whole life always buying dogs from breeders. I never really knew differently. When I saw how many dogs need rescue, and not just old mixed breed dogs with health problems – I’m talking you can find young, healthy, pure-bred dogs that need a home. Don’t believe me? Check out the site below. But don’t go there unless you have good willpower, or you will end up with a new pet
) (And of yeah, you can also adopt horses and turtles here too!)
